Derived from Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga encompasses all areas of mind, body and spirit. The name vinyasa is a Sanskrit word that translates as “variations within parameters”. It is a discipline that links asanas (postures) in a series of movements synchronized with the breath. The pace can vary, as can the sequence of continual movements from one pose to another. Much emphasis is placed on the breath and the transitions in and out of the asanas. The routine practice of vinyasa yoga can increase muscle strength, endurance and flexibility, and reduce levels of stress. The continual movements and sometimes faster pace also provide added cardiovascular benefit, which some more traditional forms of yoga do not.
The flexibility of this practice also allows for the inclusion of other disciplines, whether it be the introduction of some yin into the mainly yang sequencing or the use of mantras and meditation to bring focus to mind, body, spirit and breath.
This class is open to all bodies and abilities, but please note that it is can be challenging.
